The Durrells in Corfu is one of Rob and me’s favorite TV shows. Its pretty nerdy as its a PBS period piece comedy, but the show is really solid and has good humor. If you haven’t seen the show check it out, its so good that it actually has been referenced multiple times on Brooklyn 99 (another of our favorite shows)! Rob wanted to make a cocktail that was inspired by the show so thats what he did.
Kumquats feature heavily in the show and Rob found them at the store the other day. If you aren’t familiar they are a tiny little citrus fruit that is basically entirely edible. They have a sweet and slightly tart flavor that makes them really tasty.
Rob added them to what is basically a Vodka Mojito. He mixed rum, lime, mint, kumquat with some vodka and triple sec (Cointreau). The end result is a really nicely tart cocktail that provided a nice crisp summer day treat.
- 6 oz Vodka
- 1 oz Cointreau
- 3 Limes juiced
- 6 Kumquats halved
- 8 Mint Leaves
- Club Soda
- Combine the liquid (except the club soda), mint, and kumquats in a cocktail shaker. Muddle everything together.
- Add ice to the shaker, and shake to combine for about 20-30 seconds.
- Strain the cocktail into and iced glass.
- Top with club soda to taste and garnish with mint/lime slice/kumquats.
