    Cucumber Tom Collins

After a weekend off, Rob is back with a new cocktail creation perfect for these hot summer days. Nothing says light and easy like this Cucumber Tom Collins. I love when Rob makes these because they are just so refreshing and with pretty much no sugar or anything. The Tom Collins is the quintessential mid-century American backyard cocktail. I’m sure you can picture it: a citrusy, fizzy cocktail in a tall glass. Think back to any movie involving that time period and they probably are drinking them in it. Its given way to beer in many ways as the cookout drink of choice, but I still love it. It was…

    Blackberry Ward 8

Rob’s got a new variation on my favorite cocktail of all time: the Whiskey Sour. The whiskey sour is a super versatile cocktail base and there are some classic variations that have become their own classics. The Ward 8 is one such off-shoot that has stood the test of time. It traces its history back to turn-of-the-century Boston, where it takes its name from one of the voting divisions of the city. Its one of those old cocktails that have a number of origin stories surrounding it. Rob loves that kind of cocktail, they are well established, but don’t necessarily have a “right/wrong” recipe. Traditionally, the mixers for the Ward…

    July 4th Chelsea Sidecar

I love that I have a husband who likes helping with things like cooking, cleaning, blogging, and, best of all, bartending!! He has been really exploring the bartending recently, coming up with some great cocktail combos for the blog. With it being the 4th of July, there were so many possible fruit/drink combos that fit with the theme. He has a book with a whole bunch of cocktails in it, so he went looking for something classically American. He found one pretty quickly that seemed like a great starting place: the Chelsea Sidecar. The classic Sidecar is associated with the Ritz Hotel in Paris and is made with Brandy or…

    Strawberry-Kiwi Margarita

Rob is back again with another Sunday happy hour cocktail. This time it’s all about a classic fruit combo to make a fresh new marg variation. Strawberry and kiwi are a pretty natural flavor combo; I mean who didn’t grow up drinking some juice drink with that combo? I like that Rob kept a good lime base so that the cocktail wouldn’t end up too sweet. If you have looked at any of the other cocktail posts on the blog, you know I prefer tart to sweet. The overall flavor was really great, slightly sweet and reminiscent of those classic childhood drinks. For margs, I almost always prefer them on…

    Watermelon-Basil Gimlet

Rob’s finally back with another one of his cocktail creations. This one is a perfect summer refresher perfect for a warm night on your porch or by the pool: a Watermelon-Basil Gimlet. The Gimlet is a very classic gin-based cocktail. It ultimately boils down to gin and lime juice as its base, add seltzer and you get a Gin Fizz. See pretty simple. Whats great is its a nice tart drink without a lot of sweetness. Now that simplicity can make it a little boring, so time to mix it up a bit. We have what is now basically an overgrown bush of a basil plant in our AeroGarden. I…
